What’s the story behind your name?cut out copy

The name Lemon Drizzle Tea & Cakes  came from a mix of our favourite cake and the fact that we’re based in Britain’s rainiest city. Look closely at the logo and you’ll see the umbrella.

lemon drizzleWho runs your business? Do you have time to do anything else or is this full time?

There are two of us. Charlotte is mainly in charge of the baking and Clare is the face of Lemon Drizzle at markets and does all the admin. Clare also runs Worker Bee Markets.

What do you make?carrot and lemon

We make cakes, mainly classics, often with our own tasty twist. We individually wrap slices to sell at markets, make celebration cakes to order and sell wholesale to cafes. At the moment we supply Nixon’s Farm Shop Moody Cow Cafe. They order a lot of cake!

Where do you get your inspiration?

Most of our recipes start life in Mary Berry’s books. Then we tinker with them to add our own twist. When we can, we like to work with other local artisans for example we make Earl Grey Teabread (using Saddleworth Tea), Honey Cake (using Fozz-Bees honey) and Apple Cider Cake (using Flash Brewery cider and Bramhall apples)

Where are you based and where can people find you?

We bake in our (Council registered) home in Bramhall. You’ll find us at nearly all the Worker Bee Markets, including the regular events in Bramhall, Gatley and Heald Green and at Cheadle Makers’ Market at the beginning of each month. We’re on Facebook and Pedddle too as well as at Nixon’s.

Do you have any tips for anyone wanting to start their own small creative business?

Invest in a comfy pair of pyjamas as you’ll mainly be working from home!
