We love Sonia’s Indian-inspired condiments
What’s the story behind your name?
Chury is my maiden name and longstanding nickname and I wasn’t ready to let it go! I liked the idea of starting a new legacy (no pressure!) and people have always found the name catchy and fun to say so that was all there was to it really!
Who runs your business? Do you have time to do any other jobs or is this full time?
Me, myself and I with the help of my super supportive mother-in-law who opened up her home / kitchen / garage / any other available space for Chury’s to get started. I still freelance in marketing and project management whilst Chury’s becomes more established and although running your own business is definitely not a 9-5 job, it is very rewarding!
What do you make?
Indian Inspired condiments – with no added nasties, palm oil or refined sugars! Currently we have two lip-smackingly tasty products; Pineapple & Green Chilli chutney and Minted Date & Tamarind chutney – but we’re working on ideas for sauces, preserves and pickles too – all with a modern Indian twist…watch this space!
Where do you get your inspiration?
Through the favourite things that I have eaten which usually have an Indian / Middle Eastern influence – I love the fresh, floral, spiced, sweet and savoury combinations of their nation’s cuisines and wanted to create products that we flavour-seeking Brits can enjoy more often and in a variety of ways.
Where can people find you?
I’ll be popping up at some of the Gatley Worker Bee Markets and will be at pop-ups too. I’m often at the Makers Markets around the North West and Cheshire including Knutsford / Chorlton / West Didsbury / Chester and Market Co’s Wilmslow and Prestbury events.
You can also find us stocked at Manchester’s The Barbakan Delicatessen & The North Star Deli and Birkenhead’s Claremont Farm – and looking to get into more independent stores near you soon!

Do you have any tips for anyone wanting to start their own creative small business?
Find something you really love and you’ll never feel like you’re doing a day’s work again! But also, find a way to really test your idea beyond just family and friends for unbiased feedback before deciding to the take the plunge – good luck!
